I’m sure I’m not the first to say this, but I think we need a Twitter / Facebook Status Code Of Conduct of sorts.
I am more than happy to read your status updates. But I ask that they:
- are interesting
- if not interesting, are funny
- are spelled correctly
- don’t mangle grammar any more than the 140 character limit forces you to
- never (and The Rock means Never) use LOL. As far as I know, I don’t follow any 14 year old girls, so I don’t expect to see LOL. A simple Ha! will suffice if something is that funny
- aren’t just a link. Tell me why I want to click on whatever it is you’re posting
I don’t need to know:
- that you are tired
- that you are bored
- that you are tired and bored
- that your job sucks
- that you have a cold
- the intimate details of your private life
Remember, if all else fails never forget the three magic words: Be More Funny.
Thank you and good day.
I agree, sir. I might have been guilty before by saying I was tired or bored here and there but have stopped that.
Lately, I’ve been throwing up a ton of links to things I find interesting – like tech news, movie stuff, cool or funny internet videos. Things other people might like. Most times its easier to throw up a link then to post it on my blog.
I actually unfollowed a few people because all they were saying was – I’m eating Fruit Loops, Its snowing, shoveled snow, watching House, took a nap. Wow, I really didn’t need to know that nor care. If they started to tell me about their bathroom habits then I would really lose it.
I’ve been using Tweetdeck to search for others that may have similar interests that’s worth following. I’d rather keep my followers small and tight than have a ton that I don’t care about and waste my time.
Same for people that follow me. I’ll check out a bunch of their latest tweets and if it doesn’t jive with what I’m into I just don’t follow them back.

Again, your words are inspiring me to write one of these up myself.
I couldn’t agree more.
As much as I don’t like unfollowing friends, if they commit these cardinal sins frequently, I have to pull the plug. If not, my OCD hits unmanagable levels.

Seriously though, I agree. Whenever I tweet about my life, I try to make it interesting. That, or talk about Sprite. Otherwise its mainly replies to my friends.

Yes and yes. Please also add to the ‘verboten’ list updates about going to the gym, running, and/or yoga. For some reason these self serving updates make me want to run directly to the nearest McDonalds and order a number 3 with a side of number 4.
Oh, and is this mini-blog directed (in part) to anyone in particular?

Joe: I actually find most of your links entertaining, especially the Uncle Owen/Aunt Beru one. Hilarious.
Roc: I don’t think I’ve unfollowed any friends, but there are very few people that come through to my phone anymore. It just got to be too much.
Cody: I was waiting for that. I’m a little surprised nobody has Twittered, “I’m tired and bored and my job sux LOL!” That’s what I would have done.
Kev: I’ve always assumed that at least half of those people weren’t actually going to the gym. And directed at a particular person? I’m sure I don’t know what you’re talking about.

I guess I should try one of those Twitter organizers. Any suggestions on a particular flavor?
